NFL Rumors: Green Bay Packers Silently Consider Adrian Peterson Contract; Aaron Rodgers, Jordy Nelson Eager To Meet RB

The Green Bay Packers were early favorites in the NFL season. However, their Super Bowl journey was cut short with the ferocious play of the Atlanta Falcons. While Aaron Rodgers and his squad failed to meet the New England Patriots this year, many believe that they would once again be serious contenders this season. With this in mind, an Adrian Peterson contract is said to be the most reasonable move for the Jordy Nelson team moving forward.

The former Minnesota Vikings star has been one of the most controversial running backs on and off the gridiron. Despite his talent, most fans have turned their backs on him due to legal and ethical issues linked to his name. Now, Adrian Peterson remains an unsigned free agent. Will the Green Bay Packers sign him this offseason?

"We don't talk about players that are not on our team," said Green Bay Packers GM Ted Thompson when asked of the possibility of signing an Adrian Peterson contract. "We never have. We never will. It doesn't serve a purpose, I don't think."

The question came after the GM himself declared the need for a running back to support Aaron Rodgers next NFL season. Earlier in the offseason, the Jordy Nelson group lost Eddie Lacy to the Seattle Seahawks via free agency. While the Green Bay Packers refuse to comment on the possibility of an Adrian Peterson contract in their roster, Thompson admitted the need for more players in the lineup.

"We're a little short in a couple of areas. So from a personnel standpoint, we've got to get some more bodies. But we like the guys that we have, it's just that we'd like to get some more," the GM shared. He further explained, "Well, we're always looking at stuff. I don't think anybody ever believes me, but we look at players every day. ... We're always looking to upgrade our personnel, and that happens during draft preparation and during free agency."

Apart from the Green Bay Packers, an Adrian Peterson contract is said to be getting interest from the Detroit Lions and the New York Giants. At this point though, no official comment has been given by any of the parties tagged in this NFL rumor.
