NFL Rumors: Jaguars Looking To Sign Free Agent CJ Spiller to Replace Chris Ivory?

The current health status of the Jacksonville Jaguars' Chris Ivory still remains unknown which means it could affect his ability to play for the rest of the season. Because of this, various rumors have started to emerge that the Jaguars might bring in C.J. Spiller as his replacement.

On Sunday, Ivory missed the Jaguars' season-opener against the Green Bay Packers because he was in pain. He was rushed to the hospital on Sept. 12 but was then released the following day.

The team did not give out the details about his condition but NFL insiders noted that it was just a general health issue and that he is currently doing fine. Despite the reassuring statements provided by the insiders, the fact that his exact status and condition still remains unknown can be a bit worrisome for the entire Jacksonville organization.

If this condition emerges again or gets worse, Ivory could end up missing the entire season, which would spell bad news for the entire team since it will lose a running back. Compared to other teams, the Jaguars' RB bench is lacking the necessary depth. Another injury to another RB could seriously endanger the team's chances of hitting the playoffs.

One way the team could solve this is by bringing in Spiller, who recently became a free agent after he was released by the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 13, the day Ivory was released from the hospital.

Adding Spiller on the lineup will serve as an insurance policy for the Jaguars just in case Ivory gets ruled out for the rest of the season. Also, with him there, the team will still have another reliable running back to add depth to their roster.

In addition, at a young age of 29, Spiller is already a veteran in the NFL. He first joined the league in 2010 after he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills. He ended up with the Saints in 2015 after he signed a four-year contract worth $18 million.

Although it is not yet clear why the Saints released him, one possible theory is that the team already has a surplus of talented running backs in its roster. These include Mark Ingram, Tim Hightower and Travis Cadet.
