NFL Rumors: Landry Jones as New Starting QB of Pittsburgh Steelers Following Ben Roethlisberger’s Injury

Due to Ben Roethlisberger's injury during the Pittsburgh Steelers' Week 6 game against the Miami Dolphins, the team might replace him with backup quarterback Landry Jones. Depending on Roethlisberger's condition, Jones could be the Steelers' starting quarterback for the rest of the 2016 NFL season.

On Sunday, Roethlisberger injured his knee during the first half of the game. He was still able to return to the match but following the Steelers' loss to the Dolphins, the athlete admitted that his knee still hurts. He also said that he will be undergoing MRI later this week to determine his physical condition.

Depending on the outcome of the MRI, Roethlisberger might not be able to return to the field for Week 7 when the Steelers take on the New England Patriots. If this happens, the Pittsburgh franchise will most likely turn to his backup, Jones, to lead the team.

However, since injuries to the knee can be unpredictable especially among NFL players, Roethlisberger could be looking at an early end to the season. Hs injury could put him out for the rest of the year which means the Steelers will have no other choice but to appoint Jones as the new starting quarterback with Zach Mettenberger as his backup.

Roethlisberger's injuries deals a huge blow to the Steelers especially since the team is doing fairly well so far into the season, at least compared to other franchise in the league. Currently, the team is sitting on four wins and two losses.

Like any other team, the Steelers are looking to improve their record by beating the Patriots on Sunday. However, with Roethlisberger out, this could become a bit challenging for the team.

Jones, on the other hand, is still a rookie and does not yet have enough experience to be a starting quarterback for the rest of the season. He joined the team in 2013 as the replacement for backup quarterbacks Byron Letwich and Charlie Batch. The first time he played as a main passer was in October last year when the Steelers took on the Arizona Cardinals. In that game, he threw 168 passing yards with two touchdown passes.
