Arian Foster was not able to finish the Miami Dolphins' losing game to the New England Patriots on Sunday due to a groin injury. Due to his current condition and injury history, the Dolphins could look to adding Jonathan Stewart of the Carolina Panthers as their new running back.

The Dolphins suffered a devastating loss at the hands of the Patriots on Sunday with a score of 24-31. Aside from this, they also lost their running back during the game after Foster suffered a groin injury.

This wasn't the first time that the 30-year-old's physical condition affected his performance. Last week, Foster missed a practice session with the team due to a hamstring injury.

It is not yet clear if Foster will be allowed to play in the Dolphins' Week 3 game but given his history of injuries, the Miami organization could ultimately bring in a new running back who could replace him on the active roster.

If the team decides to go down this path, the Dolphins have the option of either picking someone from the free agency pool or trading for a new running back.
Currently, there are still a number of running backs who are available, even though the 2016 NFL season has already kicked off. However, many of those left in the market are high-risk players. To be safe, the Dolphins could go for an active player through a trade.

This potential deal could involve the Panthers for Stewart. Both Foster and Stewart have the same veteran experience in the league but with the former edging slightly edging out the latter in terms of average stats.

Still though, Stewart's extensive experience playing professional football can still prove to be a valuable asset for the Dolphins. But, in order to get Stewart, the Dolphins will probably have to offer a draft pick or another active player in exchange for him.

Then again, Miami's decision to get another running back will depend on Foster's condition. Before trading for a new player, the team will most likely analyze its practice squad first to check if someone can be promoted to the active roster.
