NFL Rumors: Minnesota Vikings to Bring in Mike Glennon as Replacement QB

With Teddy Bridgewater out for the rest of the 2016 NFL season, it seems the Minnesota Vikings could have a new quarterback in the form of Mike Glennon of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This rumor popped up after Glennon emerged as the winner of a recent poll.

Fans of the Vikings are still recovering from the news about Bridgewater's season-ending knee injury. Although the team has already decided that Shaun Hill will be its starter for the season, the Vikings still need to bring in a backup in case something happens to the QB.

In a recent poll launched by the Star Tribune, fans of the Vikings voted Glennon as the top contender for the team. As of today, Gleenon has acquired 4,012 votes. Trailing behind him is Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers with 3,142. Kaepernick could have been the top pick if it weren't for his controversial protest during last weekend's preseason game.

Other potential quarterbacks feature in the poll are Zach Mettenberger, Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith and Michael Vick.
Acquiring Glennon will allow the Vikings to add depth to its shallow quarterback bench. Aside from these, they will have a veteran passer who can serve as a mentor to Hill.

However, given the current state of Tampa Bay, the team will most likely hold on to Glennon because of the stability he provides for the Buccaneers. Right now, Ryan Griffin is the only backup for Jameis Winston. If anything happens to these two, then the Buccaneers will certainly have a very tough time going through the season.

As for Bridgewater, the athlete has recently released his first official statement following his injury. In the statement, the athlete thanked his fans and the organization for showing their support to him. Also, even though he noted that he will not be able to play with the team this year, he stated that he will use the same drive and dedication he has for football on recovering.

"In order to have a testimony, you have to have a test," he said in a statement. "I come from amazing DNA, I watched my mom fight and win against breast cancer. We will, as a team, attack my rehab with the same vigor and energy."

"My faith is strong, my faith is unwavering and my vision is clear," he added. "My purpose will not be denied."
