The New England Patriots have released their updated inactive list with Jimmy Garoppolo in it. Not only does this mean that the quarterback will not be able to join the team's future games, but this also suggests that he could get released by the Patriots.

Garoppolo got sidelined during Week 2 of the 2016 NFL season the Patriots' game against the Miami Dolphins. Due to his shoulder injury, backup quarterback Jacoby Brisset stepped in place. With the QB bench depleted, the New England franchise made a surprising move an appointed wide receiver Julian Edelman as the emergency quarterback.

Brisset and Edelman's tandem will likely continue until after Week 4, when Tom Brady returns from his league-sanction suspension. As for Garoppolo, there's no timetable yet regarding his potential return.

However, if everything works out well for the Patriots, specifically if Brady returns in good shape and Brissett maintains his performance as a No. 2 QB, then there's a good chance that the team might decide to let go of Garoppolo.

Being on the inactive list isn't also a very good sign for the athlete. Because of this, the Patriots could either trade him to a team that's willing to take him, or just waive him completely. But then again, this could depen on Brady and Brissett's performances. If they do well, then the Patriots will probably not see the need to keep a third or fourth backup QB on the lineup. After all, they already have Edelman.

As for the wide receiver, his father, Frank Edelman, recently spoke about his son and his skills on the field. He noted that even though he's confident about Julian's background playing as a quarterback during his younger year, he's still not too keen on watching him play professionally as a passer.

"I'd be a nervous wreck," he said. "Jules has been out of that quarterback position for eight years. We're not really good at winging it - that's not in our DNA. We've got to study for a test. And he's added muscle for the punishment he has to take as a receiver, so he might have tighter mechanics trying to throw the ball."
