Rookie Darian Thompson is now in danger of missing out on the entire season with the New York Giants after aggravating the fit injury he suffered in Week 2. Because of his current condition, he certainly will not be able to play with the team after bye week when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

Thompson suffered a foot sprain during the Sept. 18 game against the New Orleans Saints. Since then, he has not been able to play with the rest of the Giants for five straight weeks.

Earlier this week, Thompson was feeling better and confident that he'll be able to return to the field. However, during Wednesday's practice session, he aggravated his injury.

"It felt very uncomfortable," he said. "I felt pain. "Right now I don't really know what's going on. I'm going to find out more when I see the doctor."
"I stayed here during the bye week doing rehab," he added. "I was feeling good. I guess it just wasn't ready yet."

Thompson's injury certainly deals a huge blow to the Giants especially since the rookie was expected to be a starter in his debut year. However, based on his current condition, it is not yet clear when he'll be able to return.

He is scheduled to see a specialist this week. Depending on what the doctor says, he could be ordered to undergo surgery or be placed on the team's injured reserve list.

Either way, he'll miss the upcoming games with the Giants.

But, as noted by defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Thompson's absence isn't that big of a deal for now since he's been on the sidelines for quite some time now. However, the team is still dealing with a lack of depth in its roster especially since aside from Thompson, Nat Berhe is also not yet cleared to play because he's currently recovering from a concussion.

With these two athletes out, safeties Andrew Adams and Landon Collins will most likely see more playing time.

"Not much has changed," Spagnuolo said. "We're not sure where Nat is. We're not sure where DT is right now. Really, Landon and Adams have been getting all the reps right there. We're filtering in some other guys just in case, emergency guys right now, but we're thin."
