The exit of Brian Hoyer from the Houston Texans roster served as a game changer for a couple of NFL teams. To name a few, the talented quarterback managed to attract the attention of the New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles. At the moment, two football teams are said to be frontrunners in the bid to sign Hoyer - the New York Jets and the Denver Broncos.

While the Denver Broncos have the advantage of being the Super Bowl 50 winners, the New York Jets can offer Hoyer an almost certain shot at the starting position. This stems from the fact that the Brandon Marshall is expected to let go of Ryan Fitzpatrick completely once they sign Hoyer. Since the New York Jets are partial to the problematic behavior of the other quarterback on the roster, Geno Smith, the former Houston Texans star could be reasonably anticipated to land the starting job.

At the moment, the New York Jets have yet to officially comment on the future of Fitzpatrick with the NFL team. According to sources, the football team recognizes the need for a good quarterback in the league. However, the front office feels that the asking price of Fitzpatrick is too steep. Hence, the possibility of signing Hoyer becomes an attractive solution to the quarterback drama.

"Fitzpatrick is the Jets' No. 1 priority, but his asking price is a lot more than what the Jets are offering," revealed Rich Cimini of ESPN. The expert added, "The Jets could make an immediate move to sign Hoyer or they could use him as leverage against Fitzpatrick."

In another report, Cimini reiterated his point on the stand of the New York Jets regarding the Fitzpatrick contract drama. He noted, "The Jets' offer to Fitzpatrick isn't based on cap space; it's based on what they feel he's worth. Obviously, Fitzpatrick feels differently." Cimini also revealed that "the offer is better than the $7 million-to-$8 million that is being reported, which means the low-ball perception isn't quite accurate."

Meanwhile, the New York Jets also commented on the release of Hoyer. According to Mike Maccagnan, the NFL team is interested in the possibility of signing the former Houston Texans star. However, the New York Jets general manager remained secretive with plans of the front office.

"When he became available, it was an opportunity for us to look into Brian," Maccagnan shared of Hoyer. He added, "We like him as a prospect. We always anticipated this would be more of a fluid free agency, but we're just doing our due diligence, at the end of the day. We'll see how it unfolds."
