NFL Rumors: Pittsburgh Steelers Fight For Jimmy Garoppolo Contract; Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown Want Young Patriots Star

The quarterback crisis in the NFL has been the central concern this offseason with the likes of Colin Kaepernick, Robert Griffin III and Mark Sanchez still in the market. However, it appears that most NFL teams are more interested to trade than sign free agents with a Jimmy Garoppolo contract tagged as a highly coveted deal. With the New England Patriots backup to Tom Brady find a new home soon?

The New England Patriots Super Bowl win under the leadership of Tom Brady made it clear that the veteran has no intention of slowing down anytime soon. With this in mind, the possibility of a Jimmy Garoppolo contract elsewhere becomes a looming inevitability as the backup's time in the NFL is ticking. Since the possibility has been opened by the New England Patriots, teams like the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks have expressed interest. However, it seems that the Pittsburgh Steelers could be the most probable destination for the star.

Rumors are rife that the Pittsburgh Steelers have been planning for the impending Ben Roethlisberger retirement announcement. While the veteran has yet to officially make a statement about this, the Antonio Brown team has been open with their intention to find a new leader to take over from Big Ben. Will a Jimmy Garoppolo contract be the answer to these concerns?

"Even though it's likely Roethlisberger will return for the 2017 season, the Steelers are planning for his eventual retirement. They know backup Landry Jones isn't the future," noted Geoffrey C. Arnold of Oregon Live.

This concern was further made legitimate by Ben Roethlisberger himself as the quarterback disclosed his intention to weigh his options moving forward. That is, Big Ben plans to consider retirement this offseason. At this point, the parties tagged in this NFL rumor have yet to comment on the matter.

"I'm going to take this offseason to evaluate, to consider all options," shared Ben Roethlisberger. "To consider health, and family and things like that and just kind of take some time away to evaluate next season, if there's going to be a next season. All those things. I think at this point in my career, at my age, that's the prudent and smart thing to do every year."
