It seems the San Diego Chargers are in for an even tougher year ahead since it has been reported that wide receiver Travis Benjamin is in danger of missing the entire season due to his recurring PCL sprain. According to sources, the 26-year-old athlete is scheduled to get a second opinion on his condition later this week.

During the Chargers' Week 8 game on Sunday against the Denver Broncos, Benjamin was applauded for making one of the biggest plays of the match. In an attempt to trim down the Broncos' 10-point lead in the third quarter, Benjamin reached out into the end zone with a one-handed grab right after the ball was tipped by cornerback Lorenzo Doss.

Although his actions were able to minimize the Broncos' lead, the game still ended with the Denver franchise dominating San Diego.

Aside from the loss, the Chargers were also dealt with another disappointing news after Benjamin reported feeling discomfort in his knee due to his PCL sprain, which he has been battling through for weeks now. Due to the recurring nature of his condition, the team has decided to send Benjamin to seek a second opinion regarding his injury, Ian Rapoport reported.

Depending on the results of the second medical checkup, Benjamin could be ordered by the doctor to take a break from football for a couple of weeks or even for the rest of the year. This, of course, would deal a huge blow on the Chargers' offense. And, given the team's current record, which is 3 wins and 5 losses, they need all the help they can get on the field.

Due to the possibility of losing an effective player this season, it seems the Chargers are already preparing for this scenario by coming up with a backup plan. For the past couple of days, the San Diego franchise has been the subject of trade rumors. According to these speculations, the team is currently on the lookout for a new wide receiver. Based on the team's current situation, this new player will most likely serve as Benjamin's replacement.

The problem here, however, is that the team has very limited cap space, or just around $1.6 million, according to Bolts from the Blue. This means the San Diego front office might have a hard time finding a suitable replacement for Benjamin if he gets ruled out for the rest of the year.
