The San Francisco 49ers just released Colin Kaepernick from the roster. This gives the Blaine Gabbert team significant cap space to sign free agents this offseason. While the Tony Romo contract is still a possibility for most NFL team, it looks like the Carlos Hyde squad is setting their sights of Jay Cutler. Will the former Chicago Bears star prove his detractors wrong once and for all? Will this be the fresh start for him?

Many believe that any team willing to invest in a Jay Cutler contract is simply wasting their time and money. Most feel that there could be more talented and promising quarterbacks in the league - players who offer more potential than the aging former Chicago Bears star. Will the San Francisco 49ers give him the chance to turn his NFL career around and show everyone his worth?

"[T]here is no more mystery when it comes to his game. It was mentioned that he can still improve, although teams already know what they are getting when they sign him. His terrible win-loss record as a starting quarterback was also included in the conversation," noted iSportsTimes of Jay Cutler.

However, all may not be lost for the veteran. Rumors are rife that the San Francisco 49ers are prepared to take on the responsibility of utilizing the strong points of Jay Cutler and channeling these in the gridiron. Speculations indicate that the Carlos Hyde team might just turn the former Chicago Bears star into the next Peyton Manning - the same quarterback who brought the Super Bowl to the Denver Broncos against the young and promising Carolina Panthers.

"Cutler could still improve," noted Brad Gagnon of the Bleacher Report. He'll be 34 before he plays another NFL game, but Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, Tom Brady, Carson Palmer, Drew Brees, Steve Young, Rich Gannon, Randall Cunningham, Kurt Warner, John Elway and Warren Moon, among others, enjoyed some of the best years of their careers at or beyond 35."
