The San Francisco 49ers might have just beaten the Dallas Cowboys in signing a Johnny Manziel contract. Following an unimpressive offseason and preseason performances, neither Colin Kaepernick nor Blaine Gabbert has been named as the starting quarterback of the team. It appears that both stars failed to impress Chip Kelly, which is why a Johnny Football NFL comeback might just happen courtesy of the San Francisco 49ers.

"No, it means we're going to evaluate this like we've always said that we were going to evaluate it. Our goal today was to see if we could get even amounts of snaps for those guys with the ones and that's what we were looking for," said Chip Kelly when asked if the San Francisco 49ers have already identified their starter. He added, "I'm just talking about today. I'm not talking about the future or moving forward or anything from that stretch."

The fall of Johnny Manziel had been heartbreaking to watch for football fans across the league. A once promising star, the former Heisman Trophy winner was all set to become one of the best quarterbacks. When he entered the NFL, Johnny Football was poised to stand alongside greats like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers and Tony Romo. However, his quick rise to fame appeared to be too much for the Texas star.

At the moment, Johnny Football remains unemployed and is reportedly seeking a second shot at the NFL. Ever since the Cleveland Browns cut him from their team, a move that proved to give a second chance to Robert Griffin III, a lot of football teams have been rumored to express interest in the star. However, most were put off by his party boy image so most of them opted to withdraw from the negotiating table. Among the teams linked to Johnny Manziel are the Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. However, it looks like the San Francisco 49ers are the closest to actually signing him.

Rumors are rife that Chip Kelly has been a great fan of Johnny Football. With his unconventional style and no-nonsense approach, fans of the quarterback feel that the San Francisco 49ers coach might just be the mentor who can straighten out the troubled star. Can this really happen? Will Johnny Manziel be the answer for the San Francisco 49ers to finally release Colin Kaepernick?

The answers remain uncertain. At this point, the San Francisco 49ers are concentrating on figuring out how to fit either Colin Kaepernick or Blaine Gabbert in the leadership role. Meanwhile, Johnny Manziel is still categorized as a free agent who may or may not play for the NFL this season.
