Nokia 6 gets Android 7.1.1 Nougat update in Hong Kong and Taiwan
The Nokia 6 in Hong Kong and Taiwan is now up to par with the latest Android version and May security update. Nokia

The Nokia 6 from HMD Global was a rather decent handset which hit the market in January earlier this year, and it has made quite a name for itself in developing countries, too. Not only that, the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for the device was released in April, first arriving in China. What about Nokia 6 owners who live in surrounding territories? HMD Global has some good news in store for folks living in the aforementioned countries: that the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update too, will hit Hong Kong and Taiwan, accompanied by the May security update in one go. This ought to go some ways in making sure that your Nokia 6, should you happen to live in the regions mentioned, would be able to keep up with the updates pace.

At last, Nokia 6 owners in Hong Kong and Taiwan, too, would have their smartphones on par with those in China, as the China-based Nokia 6 devices picked up the May security patch last month as well. It would be a matter of time before Hong Kong and Taiwan users see the update hit their respective Nokia 6 smartphones, so some bit of patience is definitely called for. According to NokiaPowerUser, they have a statement from HMD Global that has confirmed this bit of news, “Nokia 6 in Hong Kong and Taiwan received Android 7.1.1 update and also the May security update today. We are delivering our promise to provide monthly security updates and also regular systems updates. China version was updated to 7.1.1 already in April and also received the May security update early this week.”

What is so attractive about the Nokia 6? For starters, this is one way that HMD Global would like the Nokia brand to make a re-entry into the smartphone world, but this time around, it will not rely on any Symbian OS or relics from the past, but rather, ride on Google’s Android mobile OS that is currently duking it out with Apple’s iOS on the smartphone front. Apart from that, the Nokia 6 is quite a looker, too, sporting a 5.5-inch full-HD display with a 2.5D Gorilla Glass on top, running on a Snapdragon 430 chipset, offers dual SIM support, and a 3,000mAh non-removable battery with fast-charging support.

At the back lies a 16-megapixel shooter with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, and dual-tone flash, while the front boasts of an 8-megapixel camera that also comes with f/2.0 aperture. A USB 2.0 port has even been thrown into the mix for connectivity purposes, while a fingerprint sensor has been included for improved security right in the front, in addition to stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos for enhanced audio.

Other countries which HMD Global is looking into when it comes to the expansion of the Nokia brand would be the Nokia 3310 (2017) model, in addition to the Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 in India. If it actually arrives in India, will it see Android 7.1.1 Nougat with the May security patch arrive as standard? Only time will be able to tell.
