New Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 becomes available this year IGN

Nvidia is set to bring better performance and power efficiency with its new architecture, Pascal. The new Nvidia architecture is used for the upcoming graphic cards, the GeForce GTX 1070 and GTX 1080. These new graphic cards are expected to be released this year. Now, here's the latest round-up of update about Nvidia Pascal GPU release date, price, and specs.

The upcoming Pascal-based graphic cards were announced during the Nvidia's event on May 6. According to a PC Advisor report, GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 will be released respectively on May 27 and June 10. In the announcement, Nvidia's CEO Jen-Hsun Huang stated that the new Pascal Architecture will bring Micron GDDR5X. The chip is said to perform three times faster than older memory modules. This is useful for users who want to run intensive applications and games which use a lot of VRAM. Moreover, this feature has been confirmed to be included on GTX 1080, while GTX 1070 will remain on the older GDDR5 chips.

Here are some of the specs of GTX 1070 and GTX 1080.

GTX 1080

2560 NVIDIA NVDA +1.72% CUDA Cores

1607 Base Clock (MHz)

1733 Boost Clock (MHz)

8 GB GDDR5X Memory

256-bit Memory Interface Width

10 Gbps Memory Speed

Total Memory Bandwidth 320GB/sec

Thermal Design Power (TDP): 180 Watts

GTX 1070

1920 NVIDIA NVDA +1.72%CUDA Cores

1506 Base Clock (MHz)

1683 Boost Clock (MHz)

8 Gbps Memory Speed

8 GB GDDR5 Standard Memory Config

256-bit Memory Interface Width

Furthermore, Forbes reported that Nvidia spent billions in R&D to release this Pascal Architecture. Its improvements are highlighted in Ansel, VR, and simultaneous Multi-projection. Nvidia Ansel allows users to take greater screenshots in supported games while VRWorks Audio is a tool that allows developers to create more VR Content.

Several tech websites also reported the new architecture brings greater performance than Maxwell architecture because of its smaller manufacturing process. From Maxwell's 28 nm, it shifts into Pascal's 16 nm FinFET TSMC. So, it is not only faster but also more power efficient.

Pascal architecture also contains the new HB SLI bridge that allows the transfer of bigger bandwidth between cards inside the PC. Also, Pascal helps to bring down the electricity bill. It is said that the new architecture heavily overclocks the upcoming graphic cards.

With all of these features about the Pascal architecture, Nvidia only ensures greater performance for its users.
