Oprah Winfrey has discovered that her "secret son" had set her up with news tabloids at the taping of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and has since backed out of her intention to get in touch with him, The Daily Mail reports.

Media was recently bombarded with reports that Oprah had birthed a secret son that she had abandoned two decades ago, and who now wanted a chance to reconnect with her.

However, recent reports now clarify that the secret son is not a biological son, but a less fortunate boy whom Oprah had decided to help out back in the 80s.

The two have not spoken to each other in the following years after becoming estranged, but now, the 37-year-old Calvin Mitchell has decided to reconnect with the woman who had shown him and his family so much compassion.

The supposedly warm "reunion" did not turn out as warmly as expected. The 61-year-old celebrity was photographed seemingly trying to push off Mitchell during an embarrassing encounter outside the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York on October 15.

Caught by surprise at the chance meeting and the appearance of paparazzi during the incident, Oprah tried to keep Mitchell, whom she had met as a child and helped put to school, within arm's length. Later, it was reported that she had instructed her staff to get in touch with him.

When Oprah realized that Mitchell had sold his story to the press, hence the presence of photographers at the initial meeting, she cut backed out of re-establishing communications with Mitchell.

Later, Oprah got a chance to clarify the details surrounding her mysterious "son" with Entertainment Tonight.

"I met Calvin around the early '90s; I think it was 1992. I was doing a film for television called There Are No Children Here. We were shooting in the projects in Chicago, and I was sitting on set during a break, and this cute little sparkly-eyed boy came underneath the yellow tape to hand me soda. I was so charmed by him."

After getting acquainted with the family, Oprah made a move to find employment for the mother, get Mitchell into a local private school, from which the boy was expelled. Later, Oprah gave him another chance and put the youth in a boarding school. He likewise dropped out of that.

Eventually, Oprah threw in the towel: "I said, 'Calvin, this is the moment... if you leave this school and refuse to get an education -- I have tried to offer you an education twice -- there isn't another school I can put you in... There is nothing else I can do.' ... And that was my last conversation with Calvin in the early '90s."
