Apple's OS X Yosemite Public Beta 2 is now available through the Mac App store to participants in the open beta program.

This is the second time the tech company is allowing the non-developers to trial the new desktop operating system. Still, Apple is only giving access to the first one million people who apply for beta testing.

Interested applicants can register on Apple's official sign-up page, which appears to be active. Once the process is completed, participants will receive a redemption code via email. Using that code, beta testers can download the OS X Yosemite Beta 4 through the Mac App Store.

Based on the build number, the software is similar to the Yosemite Developer Beta 6 that was released a few days ago. Noticeable changes for this update include new wallpapers and redesigned System Preferences icons. Users can also set the Do-Not-Disturb mode in the Notification Center. It is not certain whether Yosemite Public Beta 2 includes every feature from Beta 6.

Unveiled back in June at WWDC 2014, the OS X Yosemite will be available to the public this coming fall. There is still no official word from Apple regarding the exact release date. Ultimately, the final version includes major changes to the user-interface as well as improvements to the operating system's functionality.

Before installing the beta, participants will need to make sure that their Mac desktop is running OS X Mavericks 10.9 or later. Also, the hardware needs to have at least 2GB RAM as well as 8 GB of available disk space.
