The moon will turn blood red Monday night and televangelist and bestselling author John Hagee is convinced it's a signal from God, pointing to the end times and fulfilling biblical prophecy.

Pastor Hagee teaches in a recent sermon and book series that the four blood moons that will soon appear in the skies over America are evidence of a future "world-shaking event."

Hagee references Bible verses from the Book of Acts, in which God says:

"And I will show wonders in Heaven above and signs in the Earth beneath, the sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord."

The blood moons are part of a tetrad, a set of complete and consecutively occurring lunar eclipses that will start Tuesday night and continue in roughly half-year intervals until late September of next year.

According to NASA, seeing four complete lunar eclipses in a row is very rare. In fact, there were no tetrads from 1600 to 1900, so the fact that this one is presenting over the US is interesting, as well.

"The most unique thing about the 2014-2015 tetrad is that all of them are visible for all or parts of the USA," NASA eclipse expert Fred Espenak told CNN.

During his sermon series, Hagee points out that God has used celestial bodies since the birth of Christ to get man's attention, and is not surpised, but instead rejoicing at the signs and wonders that are appearing.

The 73-year-old founder of Texas' Cornerstone Church, thinks this tetrad is absolutely no coincidence. He teaches that it's a sign of the end times and a precursor to the blessed coming of the Lord.

"I'm going to walk you through five hundred years and show you how God is literally screaming at the world, 'I'm coming soon'" Hagee said.

The preacher has been preparing his flock of 20,000 or so for this event for quite some time now. He released a book about the blood moons last October and will again preach about the event during a special TV presentation on April 15 on the Global Evangelism Television channel.

He teaches that each of the blood moons happen on a religiously significant day.

The April 15 event happens during Passover. On Oct. 8, the blood moon will occur during the Feast of Tabernacles, and the next blood moon will occur during Passover on April 4, 2015. The last will happen on Sept. 28, 2015, another Feast of the Tabernacles known as Sukkot.

During his sermon series, Hagee also finds connections between past tetrads and relevant events in Jewish history.

In 1493, a tetrad occurred while the Jews were being expelled from Spain. Another tetrad occurred in 1949, soon after the state of Israel was founded. The last tetrad happened in 1967, during the Six-Day War between Arabs and Israelis.

It also should be noted that all Jewish holy days are based upon a lunar calendar. This means, Passover is always celebrated the first full moon after the vernal equinox and the Feast of Tabernacles is always the first full moon after the autumnal equinox.

But Hagee sees a message for our specific time in the rare red hue that the moon will take this tetrad.

"Just as in biblical times, God is controlling the sun, the moon, and the stars to send our generation a signal that something big is about to happen. The question is: Are we watching and listening to His message," Hagee ask.

NASA is live-streaming the eclipse, which will begin around 2 a.m. EDT the early morning of April 15.
