There is a scheduled maintenance for PlayStation Network next week, but many gamers finding it hard to log into the service right now. The online gaming service received numerous complains on social media about connectivity issues. Now, here's how you can check if the PlayStation Network is down, working or running.

According to reports from Reddit and Twitter, the PlayStation Network is down on PlayStation 4. Users say there's an error code written "CE-34861-2." For gamers who are attempting to play Overwatch, they get a message that says "failed to authenticate PlayStation servers."

Most of the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 users are having difficulty in signing into the service to launch their games and some media application. Aside from log-in issues to multiplayer games, there are also complains in single-player games that require stable connection to a server.

"Can't play online but have friends list up and my friend across the road is online playing Destiny. How's this possible!" One of PSN subscribers wrote.

Sony said on Twitter they are aware that some players are having difficulty in launching application, games or online features. The gaming company assured subscribers that their engineers are working to fix the issues as soon as possible.

PSN subscribers can check the server's status on this link. As of 11 a.m. PT, PlayStation Lifestyle says PSN is online again.

In the past, both PSN and Xbox Live have had several connection issues. Occasionally, outages only last for hours.

To improve the gaming service, Sony announced this month's PlayStation Network maintenance will happen on Monday, July 18. The maintenance will run from 9:30pm PT (12:30am ET) until 10:30pm PT (1:30am ET). Both PS4 and PS3 users will be affected by the routine maintenance.

Users can still sign in to their PSN profile during the maintenance. They can play games and access most of applications. However, they would not be able to access PlayStation Video, Account Management and PlayStation Store.

Speaking of PlayStation Store, this week's sale offers Rogue Legacy for $6.79 (from $8.49), Journey for $6 (from $7.49) and N++ for $8 ($10).  This promo is part of PlayStation Store's annual summer sale, where Sony highlights new indie PSN titles.
