PlayStation Plus Free Games for October 2014: PS3, PS4, PS Vita Newest Games for Download

Batman: Arkham Asylum
Batman and the Joker star in the best-selling Batman: Arkham Asylum.

In July of this year, Sony transformed its PlayStation Plus free Instant Game Collection offering by allowing two newly launched games to be playable completely free as a download from the first Tuesday of each month until the first Tuesday of the following month. This took the guesswork out of the previously uncertain free trial and download periods offered by the PlayStation Plus network over the years.

For October, the team at Sony is stepping it up by offering three free games as they debut on the network, as well as a handful of classics and a special edition of the PS4-exclusive DriveClub.

Dust: An Elysian Tail (PS4)

This independent action role-playing game takes place in the fictional world of Falana where you play as the memory-impaired main character, Dust. The game is a 2D side-scrolling hack-and-slash that features a backdrop that was hand-painted by solo designer and programmer Dean Dodrill.

Spelunky (PS4)

If you're a puzzle fan, you'll love Spelunky's randomized levels featuring a wide array of monsters, traps, and treasures. This platformer features solo play as well as a co-op mode that allows four players to fight head-to-head.

Pix the Cat (PS4/PS Vita)

Pix the Cat is a fast-paced arcade-style game from French indie studio Pastagames that promises to boost your heart rate with its infamous Fever Time feature. Also be sure to join your friends in the arena and compete online with Ghost Mode.

DriveClub (PS4)

The first rule of DriveClub is to... actually talk about DriveClub. Join up to six of your friends in your own unique car clubs to race and compete with other clubs online. This PlayStation Plus version is unique to this release and offers a full retail version at $49.99.

Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3)

The best-selling game in the popular Batman franchise pits you against The Joker (voiced by Mark Hamill) and his chronies as they attempt to trap Batman in the Arkham Asylum. This third-person action-adventure game tests all limits of exploration and puzzle-solving.

Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara (PS3)

D&D: Chronicles of Mystara is a combination of two classic D&D titles: Tower of Doom and Shadow of Mystara. It features 4-player online co-op, customizable rules, leaderboards, HD visuals, and more.

Rainbow Moon (PS3/PS Vita)

If you're a fan of turn-based RPGs, you'll enjoy Rainbow Moon. Six playable main characters with upgradeable weapons and armor face 20 dungeons and over 40 hours of gameplay. Not bad for free.

Be sure to check out these free games as they become available tomorrow, October 7th through November 4th to all PlayStation Plus members.
