In the next few months Sony's PlayStation VR will become available in many parts of the world. At Sony's E3 2016 keynote, it reminded buyers that PSVR has huge advantage over Oculus Rift and HTC Vive in terms of content, price and functionality. Now, here's that latest round up of update about PlayStation VR release date, games and demos.

Given that Sony is a gaming company, many experts say it has a huge advantage over Facebook and HTC in virtual reality race. To tease fans, Sony announced on PlayStation Blog that selected Best Buy and GameStop retail stores will host PSVR demos starting this weekend. The demos will happen in more than 30 stores. Check Sony's website for a list of stores that will host demos.

The gaming company will also release more than 50 games for the virtual reality hardware. Some of the games that will be compatible to PSVR are Star Wars Battlefront X-Wing Mission, Batman: Arkham V and Final Fantasy XV VR.

During E3 2016, the Japanese gaming company announced the PlayStation VR will become available on October 13 for $399. The package includes the VR headset itself, a processor unit, VR headset connection cable, USB cable, HDMI cable, headphones, and a power cord. However, the $399 package does not include motion-tracking controllers and a camera that are required for the headset to work.

Sony's VR hardware has 1080p 5.7-inch OLED display, coupled with 360 degree tracking sensors. The 1920 x 1080 resolution is split into 960 x 1080 per eye. It is also more advanced than other upcoming VR units. It can can produce 120 frames per second.

Furthermore, the PlayStation VR also has another huge advantage over Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Both Rift and Vive need a powerful computer in order to work, forcing buyers to shell out more than $1,000 if they don't have a VR-ready PC. On the other hand, PlayStation VR can work on Sony's existing PlayStation 4 game console. It is estimated more than 40 million people around the world own the PlayStation 4. So, this means Sony will start with a huge market for its VR hardware.

Game researcher Piers Harding-Rolls claims Sony will sell approximately 1.6 million PlayStation VR headsets by the end of this year. In addition, Brian Blau, an analyst in video games and virtual reality market, is optimistic about Sony's goal for PlayStation VR. He predicts the headset will outsell Rift and Vive after its release date.
