Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon (Pokémon Chō Fushigi no Dungeon) was recently unveiled at the Nintendo Direct event in Japan. The game's release date in Japan is scheduled for September 17. It is not certain when Super Mystery Dungeon will reach U.S. shores, however. Super Mystery Dungeon will be released exclusively to Nintendo 3DS.

Internet rumors generally suggest a North America release date somewhere between winter 2015 and early 2016. For now, Pokémon fan will need to wait patiently for more official information from Nintendo.

Super Mystery Dungeon Explained

More of the game's premise was touched upon in the second Super Mystery Dungeon trailer that was distributed on YouTube. The video revealed that human players have been turned into Pokémon. What Pokémon the user becomes is based on a series of questions asked at the beginning of the game.

Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon features 20 playable creatures. Players will be joined by partners as they negotiate treacherous enemies and dangerous traps. Also, Nintendo confirmed that the role-playing game will feature all 720 types of Pokémon.

This title is the follow-up to the 2005 Pokémon Mystery Dungeon videogame. Developed by Spike Chunsoft, both games are exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS portable console. The first game has sold more than 13 million units worldwide.

Possible Super Mystery Dungeon Demo at E3

Nintendo may display Super Mystery Dungeon at E3 2015, according to predictions by the UK's Metro. The conference will start next Tuesday, June 16, in Los Angeles.

Even though it does not have a live show, Nintendo plans to stage an online event. Contrary to earlier rumors, the Japanese gaming giant does not plan to reveal the fabled NX consoles. Also, Wii U Zelda is not likely to be featured at the gathering.

Happily, fans will get to see the long-awaited New Star Fox on Wii U. The game was introduced at last year's E3, but has not been seen publically since.

New Pokémon Game to Debut at E3

Game Expresso recently reported that Nintendo may feature an all new Pokémon game at E3 2015. The publication also said that the mystery game will follow the story of a trainer from Pokémon Blue and Red. Players will control this character from the third-player perspective.

This information came from a source allegedly close to Nintendo. It is not clear if that game is Super Mystery Dungeon or an entirely different title. Nintendo is cryptically labeling the game "Pokémon" for now.
