Yesterday in at Victoria Park, Hong Kong, both Christian and Catholic believers gathered and held a prayer meeting for the 8th annual July 1st commemoration, the day in 1997 when UK returned Hong Kong to the authority of China. The people at the park sang praises, prayed, and expressed their heart to walk with the Lord. The peaceful atmosphere was contrasting compared to the rally for general elections that took place on the same day.

The prayer meeting theme was "Walk with the Lord, Act in Love and and Seek for Righteousness." The general director of Hong Kong Christian Council Rev. Eric So (???) read the scriptures of the Eight Blessings from the Book of Matthew. He expressed that the poor, the sorrowed, the peacemakers, and especially the ones who are persecuted for righteousness will be blessed; they will all receive the blessings of God. He declared that Christians must bring the good news about the blessing of Jesus to these people, and let them know that God will surely reward them, and allow them to receive strength and encouragement from Him.

The bishop of Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong Joseph Zen also shared the gospel to the crowd. He believed that the believers should know to love the Lord and love others, and follow the righteousness the Lord instructed us to. He said that the prayer meeting conveyed the petitions of the people and where the conscience of the people in Hong Kong lies. Lastly he requested the people to pray for the politicians so that the Lord may aid them.

The prayer meeting was presided by Mrs. Rose Hu and Rev. Jenny Hsu led the commencement and the scripture reading.

The meeting was briefly hindered by rain, and believers under cover immediately cleared space for those who are in the rain, demonstrating the spirit of love.
