Prince William has taken up Diana's torch as his way of remembering his dearly departed mother, the Princess of Wales who was much beloved all around the world.

The Duke of Cambridge talked about how he understood what it felt like to experience the death of a family member when he gave a speech at a charity dinner that supported bereaved families, the Huffington Post reports.

Child Bereavement UK is a nonprofit organization that Diana herself supported at its launch three years before she herself met her untimely end. The charity focuses on providing aid and guidance to grieving families. It was only one of the many advocacies that the late Princess of Wales had been involved in. She was also known for fighting for the cause of AIDS victims and removing landmines in war-torn zones in order to protect the innocent from inadvertently walking into them.

In his speech, Wiliam spoke about how he now appreciate his mother's work all the more now that he himself is a father to two children - Prince George and Princess Charlotte - and that he would be honored to take up the cudgels that she had left behind in 1994.

ET Online further reports that the 33-year-old prince spoke about how Diana would have been proud of what the charity has achieved in the last 21 years.

Apparently William was invited by Child Bereavement U.K. to first get involved six years ago. "CBUK works with military families, with the wrecked families of suicide victims, with little children whose lives are torn apart by the inexplicable death of a parent. And yet amid all this misery, CBUK -- and I don't know how they do this -- brings warmth, comfort, a guiding hand, a way through, even color and joyfulness, and a renewed opportunity for love as a family reknits itself after tragedy," he says in his speech.

Besides Child Bereavement UK, William is also involved in the Royal Marsdan Hospital where Diana was president. These efforts make it apparent that William is doing everything in his power to keep the memory of his mother alive. One such example was allowing the world to focus on Diana's engagement ring during his own wedding. Prince Harry had inherited Diana's Ceylon blue sapphire ring and went on to give it to his brother, saying that a future queen of England should have this ring.
