As homosexual marriage issue continues to rise as a national concern, some pro-life experts are anticipating greater confusion within the states.

According to Focus on the Family, lawmakers in Massachusetts will resume the Massachusetts Constitutional Convention this Thursday in consideration to whether or not to adopt state constitutional amendment that would protect marriage by defining it as the union of one man and one woman.

However the nation will confront legal confusion as the analysts say if they fail to recognize marriage as the union between one man and one woman. Once Massachusetts decides to legalize homosexual marriages under court order in may, many experts think other states will be more willing to legalize homosexual marriages following the footsteps of Massachusetts.

Peter Sprigg, director of the Center for Marriage and Family Studies at the Family Research Council, said if marriage is legally redefined to include gays, we are headed for “legal chaos.”

"It's naive for people to suggest, 'Let's just let each state decide,' because marriages in one state have an impact in other states in terms of their recognition for purposes of inheritance, and property ownership and so forth,' " Sprigg said."It would be next to impossible for us to live with multiple definitions of marriage.

He added that it is very possible that the Supreme Court could authorize homosexual marriages at the national level, which underlines the need for the Federal Marriage Amendment.

Mat Staver, president of Liberty Counsel, voiced his opinion on this issue, saying gay activists moved too aggressively and too early. "We need to hold back the tide and gain victories in the courts," he said. "But more importantly we need to leverage the public attitudes and opinions so that nationally we collectively come together and pass a federal marriage amendment."

Liberty Counsel recently won ruling in issuing temporary restraining order against Jason West, the mayor of New Paltz, N.Y. from illegally performing more gay marriages.

"The majority of Americans will indeed wake up, will rise up for this fight," Staver said, "and will ultimately preserve marriage as one man and one woman."
