VeggieTales greets the early spring with a new episode release and a new character voice. Rebecca St. James, nominated for “Female Vocalist of the Year” by GMA’s 2004 Dove Awards, is the voice of Hope on “An Easter Carol,” released on Feb.10.
Background
An Easter Carol is a sequel to the Veggie Tales Christmas release The Star of Christmas. The Easter episode revisits London with characters Cavis Appythart and Millward Phelps, played by Bob and Larry, who is working in Uncle Ebenezzer Nezzer’s Easter Egg Factory after burning down his theater when the two were producing their Christmas musical in The Star of Christmas.
Plot
An Easter Carol borrows a plot-line that originated from Charles Dickenson’s A Christmas Carol. The local church is planning to present a new stained-glass window but the bad guy Uncle Nezzer is planning to build Easter Land over the town church. It’s up to Hope, a music box angel, who will take Uncle Nezzer through the past, present, and future meaning of Easter, along with the help of Appythart and Phelps, to convince Uncle Nezzer that Easter is more than just his plastic egg-laying chickens and candies.
It’s not the first time St. James has mixed our musical voice with other creative outlets. Last year, St. James was “Maggie” on !Hero: The Rock Opera Tour, a modern musical about the life of Jesus. A 2004 tour of !Hero will begin in April.
St. James is currently performing with Newsboys on “The Adoration Tour,” which kicked-off Feb.12. Rebecca St. James will be releasing her new project Live Worship: Blessed Be Your Name on Feb. 24.
The 35th Annual Dove Awards will be held on April 28, 2004 at The Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville, TN.
