Cartoon Network is set to say goodbye to one of its critically acclaimed animated shows after ‘Regular Show’ finishes its eighth season.

Creator J.G. Quintel, who serves as executive producer for the Emmy-winning series, also lends his voice for main character Mordecai, a blue jay. Mordecai shares his adventures with best friend raccoon Rigby and spends their daily routine of escaping work at the park and making their way towards misadventures.

Other characters in the series include their boss Benson, co-workers Skips and Pops as well as buddies Muscle Man and High-Five Ghost.

‘Regular Show’ has turned into one of the biggest programs for Cartoon Network as it became instantly well-loved by viewers. It also represented the network for major events such as the San Diego Comic-Con and the New York Comic-Con. The critically-acclaimed animated series has also bagged honors and nominations at the Emmys and BAFTAs, among others.

Cartoon Network recently announced the ‘Regular Show’ finale has come, with season 8 being the last installment. In an interview with Quintel, the series creator shared how they came up with the decision to finally end the well-loved series.

“It was kind of more like figuring out the right way to end it, so it would end our way and properly. And that it didn’t just get cancelled and there will be no more episodes,” he said, adding: “We always intended for the show to have a beginning, middle and end so that the viewers will feel satisfied with the ending and not feel they were left hanging.”

Cartoon Network chief content officer Rob Sorcher also released a statement about saying goodbye to ‘Regular Show.

"'Regular Show' has been one of the most original animated series of this generation, creating indelible characters and signature comedy mayhem laced with heart,” he said.

He also expressed his gratitude and pride over the talented cast and crew members, who all decided to travel to space for “one hilarious final journey.” Mordecai, Rigby, and the rest of their crew were thrown over into space at the season 7 finale.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Quintel opened up about the series’ current plot and stated that he had once been reluctant to agree with the new setting of the characters.

"It will be hard as other shows might have gone done a different plan and just reboot it in space, but this is the same show,” he shared, adding: "I think we pulled it off and it's going to be very deep as people watch it as it goes on. ...It won't be a typical space... thing.”

While he did not drop any more spoilers, Quintel reminded fans that, in watching ‘Regular Show’ season 8, they should do it consistently.

“What I’m really excited about that is different from past seasons is that it will all be serialized. So it will be very important to watch all the episodes in order and see it because it’s going to be the big ending, to realize what’s going to happen with all of our characters as it ends,” he explained.

‘Regular Show’ season 8 airs every Monday at 8 p.m. EDT on Cartoon Network. The animated series will air its finale on January 2017.
