With Samsung's major hiccup on its Galaxy Note 7 where the company lost almost $3bn due to court cases and product recalls, the South Korean tech giant is hoping to get back in the game with the release of its Galaxy S8.

Samsung Galaxy S8 is set for release in the first quarter of 2017 (most probably February), and rumors have it going with the new phone's specifications and price.

Pricing on First Release

Galaxy S7: it was priced at $710, which was more affordable than the S6 priced at $745.

Galaxy S8: pricing can be between $685 and $745, which is more affordable than S7 and S6.

Design

Galaxy S7: this phone is made famous by its metal curves and slim finish. It is also equipped with a quad HD screen.

Galaxy S8: it is highly possible that S8 will have S7's same metal curves and finish, but with a larger screen surpassing S7's 5.1-inch screen. It also likely that S8 will be a pioneer for the 4K panel first introduced by Samsung for its TV screens.

Unique Feature

Galaxy S7: this phone's waterproof capability became its main selling point, and it did prove well in the market.

Galaxy S8: with S7's highly successful waterproof feature, it is expected that S8 will follow suit.  

Storage

Galaxy S7: the memory on this phone is built in without room for expansion.

Galaxy S8: the new version may most likely have an expandable storage such as a microSD memory slot, given that many consumers move to Samsung for its flexibility compared to Apple.

Battery Life

Galaxy S7: this phone comes in with either the Snapdragon 820 or the Exynos 8890 battery. Although S7 has a long battery life, many users complain of its very slow recharging due to its Adaptive Fast Charging technology that can save a battery, but can mean a slow wait.

Galaxy S8: the new S8 may have this slow recharging issue addressed. It may most likely use the Dash Charge technology, a new innovation which can achieve full recharges while preserving the battery's life.  

Koh Dong-jin, head of Samsung's Mobile Business, says in a press release, "Samsung has considered that it would make the edge display as the identity of the Galaxy S smartphone lineup if the company can provide differentiated user experience through software and user-friendly functions." Dong-jin also confirms of Samsung's commitment to restoring consumer trust following the Galaxy 7 fiasco.
