Samsung Galaxy Tab S Release Date 2014: New Tablet Will Have AMOLED Display, Leak Says

Though release dates have not been confirmed, a recent leak suggests that the 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab S may be released with AMOLED Display. Both versions of the said tablet will feature the AMOLED displays at an aspect-ratio of 2560x1600.  

Rumors of this development first originated with SamMobile, which has developed over the years a reputation for somehow acquiring insider information on Samsung devices. The validity of these claims holds some weight given Samsung's pattern of incorporating AMOLED technology to its lineup of devices that include the Galaxy s4, Galaxy s5, and Galaxy Note 3.

In fact, AMOLED technology is the secret behind Samsung's ability to make devices that are visually stunning in presentation - contributing to the company being a household name in the burgeoning Android market. Rumors about Samsung working on a 10.5-inch AMOLED tablet began circulating in Samsung's home-nation of South Korea as early as December last year.

Like the Galaxy s5, the two Galaxy Tab Ss may include Samsung's much-vaunted fingerprint sensor. The security feature allows users to lock and unlock the device, make PayPal payments, create private folders, and login without typing in user id and password. However, the technology may prove to be a liability given the potential of hackers using simple finger-lifting hacks to access the phone. Just one lifted fingerprint is enough to allow bad guys access to the user's PayPal accounts, banking data, contact list, and other private information.

Samsung's rival Apple uses similar fingerprint sensor technology on the iPhone. But for Apple users, the iPhone requires typing in a password besides swiping a fingerprint. This added step makes the iPhone with fingerprint sensor more secure.

Security aside though, the Galaxy Tab S has the potential to deliver on respectable performance. SamMobile's source predicts that the Galaxy S Tab will come bundled with the Google's newest Android 4.4.2 KitKat software. The same report also states that the Galaxy Tab S will have an Octa-core Exynos 5 (5420) SoC technology, and be powered by a quad-core Cortex A15 and a quad-core 1.3Ghz Cortex A7 processor, and a hexa-core ARM Mali-T628 GPU. The Galaxy Tab S will more likely have 3GB of RAM. In regards to cameras, the tablet will include an 8-megapixel primary camera, and 2.1-megapixels screen-facing camera. The tablet cover may be available in both grey and white.
