Sanctus Real's "Tide" Washes In

By John Ma

This year’s Modern Rock Song and Album Of The Year Dove Award nominees, Sanctus Real, receive unprecedented critical acclaim for its sophomore bow, Fight The Tide, which releases today on Sparrow Records.

Following the release of its record-breaking freshman debut, Say It Loud, Sanctus Real charges into summer with the brand new album featuring the R & R Top 10 (No. 6) and climbing Rock radio single, “Everything About You.” The band’s fastest ascending single ever, it also lands at No. 23 this week and rising on the CHR chart.

As radio continues to embrace Sanctus Real, who received their first No. 1 earlier this year with “Beautiful Day,” from In The Name Of Love: Artists United For Africa, critics are similarly lauding Fight The Tide:

“The more you hear, the brighter (Sanctus Real’s) future looks…Lead rock single (and opening track) ‘Everything About You’ serves notice—this is a whole new ball game. From the start , Fight boasts the same stylistic foundation as the debut, but here the band embraces prevalent European rock elements and makes capable forays into reggae rock (‘The Show’), pop-punk (‘Message’) and vulnerable serenading (‘Change Me,’ ‘Say Goodbye’).” – CCM Magazine

“Sanctus Real kicks up the rock intensity with the aid of producer Tedd T…Listen to the reconciliation-themed ‘The Fight Song’ and the encouraging ‘Alone’ to hear why Matt Hammitt has some of the best new vocals to hit the scene. With soaring melodies, spiritual lyrics that aren’t clichd and potent rock energy, this is a band to see live and sing along with.” – Seven Ball

“Fight the Tide… is explosive and infectious…an enjoyable rock album that is meaningful, catchy, and loud, performed with musical excellence…Like the themes at the heart of its songs, the album battles against any complacency or negativity with feel-good charm, offering infectious power pop of the same breed as Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World, and Weezer, with splashes of the anthemic (U2, Live) and the Beatle-esque ( PFR)…This is a band that likes to convey their faith simply and clearly without using tired spiritual rhetoric…Sanctus Real's greatest strength lies with their power rock sound, balancing the loudness with melodic pop sensibilities.” – www.ChristianityToday.com

Hosting a release party event Friday at The Mill in their hometown of Toledo, Sanctus Real continues its tour, performing at numerous festivals including Alive (Canal Fulton, OH 6/19), Creation East (Shirleysburg, PA 6/24), King’s Fest (Kings Dominion, VA 6/25), Son Fest (Charlotte, NC 7/9), Sonshine (Willmar, MN 7/16), Spirit West Coast (Monterey, CA 7/23), Creation West (Gorge, WA 7/24) and more before joining Jeremy Camp for a late summer, fall tour.

Sanctus Real has become well known for its captivating live performances. Over the last two years, the band has played hundreds of concerts for hundreds of thousands of music fans, including performances as a featured band on the multi-artist Festival Con Dios and See Spot Rock national tours. Sanctus Real has also been voted “Best New Artist” by the readers of CCM magazine, and ChristianityToday.com named Sanctus Real a top pick for its “2003 Best New Artist.”
