Selah's Fourth Album Claims Charts

By John Ma

Curb recording artist Selah releases its fourth album "Hiding Place" which claimed the #1 position on Nielsen SoundScan's Top Christian Albums chart and debuted at #2 on Nielsen SoundScan's Top Current Contemporary Christian chart for the week ending May 30.

"We are absolutely thrilled with Selah's first week numbers," said Mike Curb, chairman, Curb Records. "This is an extraordinary album crafted by three exceptional musicians. The songs are powerful and I know the music will be a blessing to everyone that experiences it. This is more than just an album, it is an extension of their ministry."

"For the past seven years God has been blessing Selah and blessing others through them," said Brian Jannsen, Jannsen Management. "I've seen it in countless e-mails, letters and phone calls. I've seen it on the faces of people of all ages at concerts and events. Lives have been changed; people have been encouraged through the music of these three artists. To see the sales numbers from this past week indicate some of that impact is extremely gratifying. I believe songs like "You Raise Me Up" will continue to touch many people for years to come. I'm thrilled to be part of that process."

First week sales of Hiding Place totaled more than 19,000 units, landing the project at #61 on The Billboard 200 chart, according to the publication's June 12 issue.

Produced by Jason Kyle, Todd Smith, Allan Hall and Nicol Sponberg, momentum for the highly-anticipated release of Hiding Place has been fueled in part by the success of the album's first single and current Christian AC and Inspirational radio hit, "You Raise Me Up." The song is currently at #2 on R&R's Inspo Top 20 chart; it holds the #6 position on R&R's Christian AC Top 30 chart; and "You Raise Me Up" is also at the top of the "Most Increased Plays" list in relation to the Christian AC Top 30 chart, all according to R&R's May 28 issue.

A first-run, limited edition quantity of Hiding Place features three bonus cuts, solo selections from each group member. Todd Smith, Nicol Sponberg and Allan Hall are each slated to release solo projects on Curb Records August 10.

Selah's ongoing ministry includes a full slate of concerts this summer and fall, including a performance at the 2004 CBA International Convention in Atlanta. The group will also headline their third annual Christmas tour later this year.

With a career total of five Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, Selah's 2001 sophomore release, Press On, and the group's 1999 Curb debut, Be Still My Soul, were named Inspirational Album of the year in 2002 and 2000, respectively. In addition, Press On reached the #1 position on SoundScan's Top Inspirational Albums chart and featured the Dove Award-winning rendition of "Hold On," as well as the two #1 Inspirational singles, "Press On" and "Wonderful, Merciful Saviour."
