SAN FRANCISCO- Chinese churches in San Francisco will hold a series of celebration during the Easter holiday, running from Good Friday to Easter Sunday.

Organized by the San Francisco Chinese Christian Union (CCU), congregations from 13 Chinese churches in San Francisco are to participate in the celebrations. An ecumenical worship service will be held on Good Friday to commemorate the suffering of Christ on the cross, according to the CCU chairman Rev. Mei Hung-Ming. As the Presbyterian Church in Chinatown, San Francisco (PCCSF) hosting the service, Rev. David Pan from PCCSF will deliver the messages in Chinese. The PCCSF choir is also responsible for leading the devotion and worship.

For the English-speaking congregation, CCU has prepared a separate Good Friday service in English in the evening at the First Chinese Baptist Church at Waverly Street, Chinatown of San Francisco. Pastor Don Ng, the FCBC senior pastor will be delivering the message.

Following the Christian tradition to mediate upon the meaning of life at Easter, Christians will visit the Chinese Christian Union Graveyard on Saturday morning. A message will be shared by Rev. Calvin Wong from Chinese Grace Church.

For the Easter Sunday, congregation will gather in the early morning at 7 a.m. at Chinatown to hear the message by Rev. Ko Yuan from Chinese Congregational Church. The worship service is to be conducted in both English and Chinese.

The 13 participating churches are Full Life Christian Center, Chinese Church of The Nazarene, Chinese Congregational Church, Chinese Independent Baptist Church, First Chinese Baptist Church, Golden Gate Christian Reformed Church, Presbyterian Church in Chinatown, the Salvation Army San Francisco Christian Crop., True Sunshine Episcopal Church and Chinese Grace Church.

CCU chairman Rev.Mei Hung-Ming , who is from the Salvation Army San Francisco Christian Crop., said the ecumenical Easter Celebration is an annual event and has always drawn active participation of Chinese churches in San Francisco.
