Sony Xperia X series review

Google’s latest mobile operating system, Android 7.0 Nougat, has certainly impressed after it was released in August earlier this year. Needless to say, only Google-branded smartphones were the first off the blocks to obtain the update, although the trend was bucked slightly with the LG V20 rolling out alongside the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system in tow. Sony has been pretty impressive so far in their efforts to update their bunch of relevant smartphones to bring them up to speed, having announced its list earlier on. Christmas came early for owners of the Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ earlier this month when those handsets began to enjoy the Android 7.0 Nougat update, and now the same can be said of owners of the Sony Xperia X and Xperia X Compact smartphones.

The Android 7.0 Nougat update for both the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact was officially announced via Sony’s Twitter account. Do be patient though, as the rollouts are phased. This means it might arrive on one region before the other, and heck, if you have already waited for a few months, what is a wee bit more time spent on the side twiddling your thumbs? At least you have the assurance that the Xperia X or Xperia X Compact that is in your hand or pocket right now will be able to enjoy some Nougat goodness eventually.

The announcement might have been made just today, but apparently the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact have already started to make their rounds some days earlier. According to XperiaBlog, they have managed to pick out the update two days earlier, where it made its way to the Xperia X (F5121), Xperia X Dual (F5122), and Xperia X Compact (F5321), while carrying the build number 34.2.A.0.266. It was further mentioned that the Android 7.0 Nougat update made its way to regions such as Australia, Latin America, Middle East, Russia, Turkey, Thailand and Vietnam.

Now, those do not seem to be the most developed of markets, but perhaps Sony knows where the majority of their Xperia X and Xperia X Compact handsets reside in, which is why they decided to target those particular markets.

You would do well to make sure that you have performed a backup of all your data on your handset before proceeding with the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update, just as a precaution. After all, you can never quite tell as to when something might go awry. Also, do ensure that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network before you perform the download, since those who have taken the route before you claim that the update’s download would weigh in at over 1.2GB, so you have been warned. It will also include the December security patch just to be on the safe side. And yes, it would be best if your battery level shows at least 50% on the notification bar, as having a firmware installation stop halfway during installation is a recipe for disaster.
