Sony Xperia Z4

With the Android 5.0 update being delayed on many devices, many Sony Xperia users are wondering when it is coming to the Z3, Z2, and the rest of the Sony Xperia series.  There is some good news on that front according to Sony Mobile, but the release date for the Xperia Z4 smartphone remains pretty elusive this year.

According to the Latin Post, the Android L Update OTA release date has come, and Sony has told its users that if you have the Sony Xperia Z3, the Sony Xperia Z2, the Xperia Z2 Tablet, and the Xperia Z3 Compact, then you are due.

In fact, a posting on March 16th, 2015 from the Sony Mobile blog has stated "we're starting our Android 5.0, Lollipop upgrade from today for Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact".  Another Sony Mobile blog post states that the first devices that will receive the upgrade will be in the Nordics and Baltics, then continue to further markets on the entire premium Z series which include:  Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. The Sony Z Ultra Google Play edition devices will be first up.

What can be expected from the Android L update?  Well, there will be fresh, streamlined looks based on Google's material design, new look notifications, new lock screen, multi-user profiles, guest mode, better storage control, better customization, and Android for Work.

With the addition to the Android 5.0 update for the Sony Xperia series, it has left Sony fans wondering when the Xperia Z4 smartphone will hit the market.  It was expected to make an appearance at Mobile World Congress 2015, but Ecumenical News has speculated that the Xperia Z4 will be launched at the IFA show scheduled on September 9 to 15 in Berlin.

We have discussed many rumors about the Xperia Z4 smartphone.  It looks to have maintained the signature OmniBalance design for the smartphone, with some water and dust resistance.  The display will be at 5.2 inches, and the screen resolution will be at Quad HD 2,560 x 1,440 pixels.  One feature that will definitely be on the Xperia Z4 is it will have Lollipop out of the box.

These same leaked images have some odd port flap on the left side of the smartphone, which could be for a SIM card and microSD card slots.  Then there is an odd hole at the bottom of the device adjacent to the USB port, but it is unknown what this is.  Leaked images also show that the front-facing camera and proximity sensors different from that of the Z3.

If you have any of the current Sony Xperia series of devices, then you should be constantly checking your "Settings" to see if the long-awaited Android 5.0 update is ready to download.  As for the Xperia Z4, we anticipated a release date at IFA Berlin 2015.
