What is in store for the Sony Xperia Z5 update?

Sony Xperia Z3+ will have its initial release date this summer. Known as the Xperia Z4 in Japan, the device has already release to the Japanese market in late May. Like the Xperia Z3 and Z2, the Xperia Z3+ will come with Android 5.0 out of box. Even so, Sony will likely push out Google's newest Android M firmware at a later date.

In the meantime, consumers in the UK and Indonesia can pre-order the phone at select retailers.  However, USA retailers have yet to announce pre-order offers.

Likely ETA for International Sony Z3+

According to TechRadar,UK customers will get be able to buy the Sony Z3+ starting on June 22. It is unclear when the Sony Z3+ will start shipping to North America. For now, U.S. smartphone users will need to wait for more information from Sony.

Sony Z3+ Specs and Expected Price

Admittedly, the Z3+ is Sony's lightest and thinnest Xperia Z series smartphone to date. In fact, the device weighs in at just 144g, and is 6.9mm thick. Out of box, the Xperia Z3+ runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Sony has not offer a selling price for the Xperia Z3+. The company vaguely stated that pricing will be reflective of the phone's quality. PCAdvisor reported that UK retailers are asking for £549 ($872 USD) with pre-orders.

Still, U.S. prices for Sony devices are generally cheaper than those in Europe. For instance, the standard Xperia Z3 sells for around $400-$500 USD with U.S. retailers. That price jumps to £300-£ 440 ($500-$700 USD) in the UK.

So, the U.S. version Xperia Z3+ may sell for cheaper, but not by a whole lot. Also, consumers will need to hope that Sony does not cut out the North American market from receiving the Xperia Z3+.

What is Android M?

Earlier this year, Google has introduced the Android M to the world. As of yet, the operating system has yet to receive a nickname. The Mountain View-based tech giant has a habit of naming the Android firmware after sweet confections. Popular rumored names include muffin, marshmallow, and macaroon.  Other gossip circles contend that Android M will be called "Macadamia Nut Cookie".

All Xperia Devices to be Updated to Android 5.1

Sony confirmed that it is updating every one of its Xperia Z series devices with Android 5.1 Lollipop. Those handsets include the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2. According to Sony's official Mobile Blog, the Android 5.1 Lollipop update is rolling out in July.

Naturally, users with unlocked devices will receive the update first. Those who are on Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile subscription plan will need to wait a little longer. Generally, it takes awhile for carriers to distribute the latest Android update from the manufacturers.
