We mentioned before that there are rumors of Spaceballs 2 being on the way, and what has been recently found is not exactly proof positive.  For those who think that this is another case of Hollywood attempting a sequel decades later after a nostalgic hit to cash-in on the profits, that is clearly the case in the subtitle with "The Search For More Money".  It would appear that at least a poster of Spaceballs 2 has been made, but it is probably by a wishful fan who could have his dreams come true.

According to SlashFilm, some posters for Mel Brooks' Spaceballs: The Search For More Money have appeared in the New York City Subway System.  As you can see in the image, they are crudely taped on the wall, and it is unlikely that this is an official poster approved by Mel Brooks.  Even though the New York Subway is a high profile place of advertising, something like the release of a movie like this doesn't announce itself like this.

Mel Brooks has been asked about the possibility for a Spaceballs 2, to which he gave a lengthy response of: "If I did a movie that came out right after Star Wars comes out - maybe a couple of months later - I'd have a big weekend, you know? No matter what, even if it fell on its ass and didn't get its money back...but that first weekend, the anticipation of seeing Spaceballs 2, would...I still have Daphne Zuniga and I still have Rick Moranis if he'd do it, and I've still got me."

Rick Moranis is an actor who is semi-retired, having done very few films since Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves.  He has done a few voice-overs, such as a part of a moose in two Brother Bear films from Disney.  He did not reprise his role as Dark Helmet for Spaceballs: The Animated Series, which only lasted one season.

Daphne Zuniga did appear on the short-lived and not-so-critically acclaimed series, so it is interesting that Brooks assumes that she is available.  As far as Brooks being available, the director/comedian/actor is pushing 90 years sold, so if he wants to make a sequel to the speculative fiction film, it would be good to start before too much time passes.

Speaking of too much time passing, perhaps this is a good time for a Spaceballs sequel after all.  Considering the money that Disney made with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it makes sense that Mel Brooks could make a "generation later" follow-up to his science-fiction franchise for a whole new generation.  Even the NYC subway poster hearkens back to the latest Star Wars film with a Dark Helmet's helmet looking damaged.

Chances are, the NYC subway posters are some stunt by an artist who wanted to create a sensation.  Perhaps he or she truly wants a sequel to the 1987 film and thought inspiring others with the possibility of it being true could make it true.  With devotion such as this, it looks like Spaceballs 2 could be made a reality by fan devotion alone.
