Cardinals vs. Dodgers Game 5 Preview

Cardinals defeated the Dodgers 4-1 in Game 4 of NLCS Tuesday night when Matt Holiday hit a home-run that made a noise so loud the entire stadium knew what that meant when they heard the sound. That hit not only turned the Cardinals postseason performance around at 3-1 lead, but also propelled the Cardinals to a within a one win of returning to their second World Series in the past three years.

Prior to the Holliday's home-run, the Cardinals were batting a low .141 in this series, an average that falls outside of the standards of the best lineup in the National League. While the Cardinals hold the lead over Dodgers after Game 4, it is uncertain if Cardinals can keep up their momentum to win Wednesday's Game 5 to proceed onto the World Series.

Dodgers' pitchers Zack Greinke, Clayton Kershaw and Hyun-Jin Ryu will be sure to put up a fight to keep their team in the game as they were pushed to the brink.

In order for the Dodgers to get to World Series, they have to win three consecutive elimination games against the Cardinals. That has not been done in the National League Championship Series since last year, when the San Francisco Giants did it against the Cardinals.

"We have Greinke and Kershaw in the next two games, so there's a good chance there will be a Game 7," Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez told Los Angeles Times.

"We're all lined up," Infielder Nick Punto said, according to LA Times. "The Pressure is all on them now."

If Cardinals lose Game 5, the Dodgers would hit to St. Louis. If the Cardinals lose Game 6, the series would come down to a winner-take-all game.

Just last year, the Cardinals were in the same situation of a 3-1 lead in the NLCS, but the San Francisco Giants did a comeback with three consecutive wins against them and made it to the World Series.

"We get it to Game 7, those things will creep in their heads over there," Gonzalez said, the LA Times reported.

The Cardinals on the other hand remained calm and did not claim the game was over because of what happened last year.

"Just because you're up 3-1 doesn't mean anything," infielder Daniel Descalso told reporters in a press conference. "You don't want to have that feeling again of being up 3-1 and losing three games in a row."

Judging on the players mindset, Wednesday's game will be even more exciting to watch as the excitement continues to built until the World Series.
