Starfield: New Frontier for Canada's Band Opens Today

By John Ma

May 18 marks the date when Sparrow Records, who recently added Canadian award-winning worship rock band 'Starfield' into their industry, will release the self-titled debut. The band proves to be already popular in the states, having received much support from U.S. radio stations, print media, and key concert promoters.

Starfield has performed over 400 shows in its home country and was nominated for a Juno Award (Canada's Grammy), has won five Vibe Awards (Canada's Dove). Even before making their debut into the states, the band was requested by many Christian record labels before they partnered with Sparrow Records.

Matt Bronleewe, producer of dc talk, Rebecca St. James, Natalie Imbruglia, comments that this band, "takes a no-compromise approach to Christian music. While most bands play it safe, Starfield hammers the point home, song by song, that you can make great art and still be relevant."

The band's first radio single "Filled With Your Glory," is already a Top 15 hit and in stream with America's two largest Christian radio stations.

Even Karen Bliss, a freelance music journalist who wrote in Elle Canada, and Rollingstone.com, compliments, "Starfield's Tim and Jon Neufeld are outstanding songwriters who know the meaning of a 'big' chorus. The music definitely has mass appeal."

CCM Magazine describes Starfield's style as, "bridging the gap between pop, rock and worship genres" and "resonates with vivid worship lyrics and melodies that recall acts like Jars of Clay, MercyMe, Delirious and early Sonicflood."

American audiences look forward in seeing Starfield's appearance live this spring and summer at various Acquire the Fire events, several shows with Casting Crowns and Chris Tomlin, and music festivals such as Alive, Creation East and West, Kingdom Bound, and SoulFest.

Starfield's songs can be found on the radio's U2 hit "40" on IN THE NAME OF LOVE: ARTISTS UNITED FOR AFRICA, also featuring tobyMac, Sixpence None The Richer, Audio Adrenaline, Pillar, and others.
