Former Taiwanese government office chief, Minister Lin Chia-lung said he is willing to cooperate with Christian relief organization, World Vision International, to aid victims of magnitude-9.0 earthquake which hit the island of Nias in Indonesia.

Even today, refugees camp in emergency tents in destitute conditions caused by the disaster in March 28, following the tsunami catastrophe last December.

Lin arrived last Sunday and promised fundraising campaigns to sponsor 10,000 orphaned children in Southeastern Asian countries devastated by the earthquake.

Titled the “The Day After Tomorrow, 10,000 Hopes,” the campaign will earmark about $ 3.43 million USD to help 3,000 children in Nias to rebuild their lives, reconstruct their schools, and continue to complete their basic school education. The funds will aid Indonesia to build 20 schools and finance vocational training.

During the visit, World Vision officials along with Lin and other delegation members visited a Catholic orphanage where they expressed their love and concern to the children through singing and dancing.

According to World Vision, 80 percent of the funding for Nias relief projects come from Taiwan. So far, this islander country has committed to spend a total of $87.8 million USD on relief aid areas of food, medical assistance and community reconstruction for countries affected by the tsunami disaster, including Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
