Tom Clancy’s 'The Division' Release Date Delayed; 'Rainbow Six: Siege' Launch Date Confirmed

Tom Clancy's The Division
Beta version to be released in January 2016.

With Tom Clancy's The Division release date being pushed back to 2016, players will only be getting Rainbow Six: Siege this year. Ubisoft confirmed this in their financial earnings call last week.

Happily, the Rainbow Six: Siege release date is set for October 13 - right around the start of the winter shopping season. Both Tom Clancy titles are available for pre-order at Ubisoft's Uplay Store, Best Buy, Amazon, Target, Walmart, and Game Stop.Upon release, The Division and Rainbow Six: Siege will be available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

In the sections below, we will look at the current development situation for both games.

Newest Rainbow Six Trailer Released

Ubisoft has released yet another trailer for Rainbow Six: Siege. The video that was posted on YouTube regurgitates already-confirmed information. Namely, players will get to choose between 20 operators from five international counter-terrorist teams.

In between the obligatory eye-candy, viewers can catch a glimpse of the new SAS breacher "Sledge" as well as a whole group of new characters.

The Division Release Date Delayed Again

Once again, The Division release date has been pushed back. The new launch schedule has been set for Q4 2016, which falls between October and December. This information was recently unveiled at Ubisoft's financial earnings call.

"It is never an easy decision to move launch dates, but we are committed to make decisions that will benefit the players," said CEO Yves Guillemot, according to Polygon. "As I said in my introduction, this is our most important driver as it has always benefitted the company in the long run."

Previously, The Division was expected to be released in Q4 2014 after its debut at E3 2013. Instead, the game was pushed back to Q4 2015. Then in May, the release date was delayed a second time. While recent developments may disappoint fans, Ubisoft has promised that the game will be very refined upon release.

"Those games take more time to be completed," Guillemot explained. "We want to make sure we have enough feedback from consumers from alpha and betas to polish it as much as possible before the launch so it comes to the market with the best experience possible. We expect less sales in the financial year than if it would have been launched in the Christmas season, but over the whole, we expect as much sales over its lifespan."

Tom Clancy's The Division features heavy RPG elements that involve gameplay in an immersive openworld environment. The premise of the title takes place in New York three weeks after a lethal virus is released on Black Friday.  Society has fallen and the U.S. President activates The Division, a top-secret unit of self-supporting tactical agents. Tasked with restoring order, players must do battle to ensure the survival of innocents. Gameplay includes collecting resources and engaging in firefights.
