The Michael Bay Transformers movies have been bringing Hasbro a lot of money since the first in 2007, then Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in 2009, then Transformers: Dark of the Moon in 2011.  There was a three-year gap with Transformers: Age of Extinction in 2014, and Transformers 5 was due out this year, but has been delayed until 2017.  There are actually a few more Transformers films on the way, as well as a lot of tie-ins to other Hasbro toys, seriously.  This is what we know about Transformers 5, or Transformers: The Last Knight, release date and news.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Michael Bay posted a short video last Tuesday that teases the return of Megatron in Transformers: The Last Knight.  For those that remember the last Transformers film of Age of Extinction, Megatron was resurrected (again), but he didn't really have much involvement in the film.

Bay was pleased to announce that Transformers: The Last Knight has begun filming, and confirms its production in June.  This wasn't the only ad for Transformers, as Memorial Day weekend, there was a mysterious video posted last Saturday showing a torn file from the U.S. Department of State with Morse code playing in the background.  The video caption reads:  "Something wicked this way comes", and the Morse Code translates "E I'm coming for you May 31".

The cast includes Nickelodeon star Isabela Moner, who has not appeared in any of the Transformers films.  Mark Wahlberg, who first appeared in the Transformers universe as inventor Cade Yeager in Age of Extinction, will be back.  It should be noted that Age of Extinction had none of the original cast of the first three films, but Josh Duhamel will return in The Last Knight

So far, there isn't much known about the plot of The Last Knight, but director Bay has said that the ship that Lockdown piloted in the last film will play an important part in these movies.  In fact, Bay said that there will be a lot of times where the audiences will be seeing things in the film, and they won't get an explanation.

This actually makes a lot of sense, as it has been announced that Hasbro wants to do a Cinematic connected universe with Transformers, which will incorporate other toy properties like G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionaries, MASK, and ROM.  It is possible that The Last Knight refers to ROM, who is one of the Spaceknights from another world.  Considering that Transformers: Age of Extinction ended with Autobot leader Optimus Prime blasting off into space, it seems that the film was setting up some kind of deep space setting.

I suppose that we will find out some of the answers to these questions when Transformers: The Last Knight hit theaters on June 23, 2017.  The sixth and seventh installments are planned for releases on June 8, 2018 and June 28, 2019.
