The first trailer for the Transformers 5: The Last Knight has just been released. The last Transformers film to be directed by Michael Bay is set to hit theaters on June 23, 2017. It's a 2 minutes and 30 seconds trailer that seemed to be a merge of the old times where knights and sentient robots already exist and the future where humans and Transformers are waging the biggest war to save the Earth.

Aside from Optimus Prime who is floating dead in space, expect a lot of explosions, battle scenes and imagery. The fact that it's entitled "The Last Knight" means whoever it refers to will certainly play a key role in the story. The trailer starts with blood dripping from a crucifix. It is followed by shots of knights in a middle of a battle and scenes of what seems to be World War II. Over the trailer, Anthony Hopkins' character Sir Edmund Burton narrates, "Two species at war, one flesh, one metal. Optimus Prime has left us." This clash was shown throughout the trailer.

It also highlighted the characters' struggles as they are threatened by Cybertronian forces, according to GamenGuide. Mark Wahlberg returns as Cade Yeager. Though the scene stealer in the trailer would be when Optimus Prime said the words "forgive me". This might suggest that the beloved character and leader of the Autobots could be "turning on his comrades" with Bumblebee getting the worst end.

As mentioned above, the presence of medieval knights in the trailer should confirm that the story will explore "the mythology" behind the creation of Transformers, according to The Atlantic. It might be somehow connected to the legend of King Arthur. Rumors have already mentioned that Optimus Prime is actually going to find an artifact that can save Cybertron. The significance of that artifact is evident since it was used by Merlin the Magician to become powerful during the time of King Arthur, according to News Everyday.

The Transformers film series has already grossed $3.7 billion worldwide. The last film prior to The Last Knight is Transformers: Age of Extinction with a box-office gross of $1.1 billion. This fifth film in the series will be followed by a Bumblebee spin-off set to be released on June 8, 2018. Furthermore, there will still be a sixth Transformers movie that should be coming on June 28, 2019. Though it is still not known who will direct the film.
