Following several injuries at their running back position, the Washington Redskins has announced the addition of Mack Brown to their practice squad.

The team's three-man rushing attack of Matt Jones, Chris Thompson, and Alfred Morris had gone down to just one by the end of its loss to the New York Jets over the weekend. Thompson injured his lower back during the game, and Jones was sidelined due to a sprained big toe.

This move is widely seen as a strategy to give insurance to the 53-man Redskins roster. Before his inclusion to the practice squad, Brown was a free agent and an undrafted rookie from Florida. He was signed by Washington on July 27 prior to the start of training camp and saw limited time in the team's first three preseason games.

During the Redskins' final contest before the regular season, the 24-year-old player ran the ball 13 times for a team-high of 48 yards and one touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was eventually released from the roster before the season opener.

Brown will join Trey Williams, who is also an undrafted free agent, as the Redskins's running back in the practice squad. To make room for Brown, the team released linebacker Nico Johnson on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, rumors are rife that the Redskins are getting several calls to change their quarterback. However, a change is unlikely to happen anytime soon as the team will reportedly be sticking with Kirk Cousins and coach Jay Gruden for the season, according to ESPN's Britt McHenry.

"#Redskins source: No knee jerk reactions. 'Ride w/ Jay & Kirk until end of season.' Won't go to Colt or RGIII unless 'disastrously bad,'" McHenry shared in a tweet posted on Wednesday.

Cousins has been on the hot seat since he delivered a poor game for Washington during Sunday's devastating 34-20 loss to the New York Jets. Despite that, head coach Jay Gruden stood by him and backed the quarterback's 25-of-43 for 196 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in the defeat.

Gruden reaffirmed his support for Cousins and told 24/7 Sports, "I just feel like that right now at this time. I feel like Kirk gives us the best chance to win still. I want to see him fight through this. That's going to be the making of a strong person, a strong football player. I'm excited to see him bounce back and have a big bounce-back game this week and the coming weeks."
