In prior to the meeting of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America in Pittsburgh, the Westminster Assembly scholars are holding a two-day international conference starting today, June 14, on the campus of the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with the hope to address theology and product of the Westminster Assembly of Divines (1643-1652) and present the latest research on the Westminster Assembly and its work.

The conference titled, “The Westminster Confession into the 21st Century,” is an international conference on the Work of the Westminster Assembly, sponsored by various Christian educational institutions of Presbyterian and Reformed denominations such as Christian Focus Publications (Scotland); RPCNA Church History Committee; The Craig Center for the Study of the Westminster Standards; Westminster Theological Seminary; Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary; Covenant Theological Seminary; and more.

Many noted scholars from the Presbyterian and Reformed denominations (PCA, ARP, RCNA, Free Church, and Church of Scotland) and seminaries listed above are speaking at the conference. Featured speakers include: Dr. William S. Barker, Adjunct Professor of Church History at Covenant Theological Seminary, St. Louis, MO; Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson Professor of Systematic Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary, Dallas, TX; Dr. Samuel T. Logan, Jr. President and Professor of Church History at Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, PA; and Dr. Wayne R. Spear Professor of Systematic Theology, Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary at Pittsburgh, PA.

The speakers will address various topics regarding the Westminster Assembly of Divines. They are expected to discuss major issues in Westminster theology involving justification, the sacraments, sanctification, worship, covenant theology, the Lord’s Day and pastoral theology. New research and developments in the area of the Assembly will also be updated, along with the introduction of the second volume of “The Westminster Confession into the 21st Century (Mentor, 2004)” by Willie MacKenzie of Christian Focus Publications. CFP and other publications will present resources related to the study of the Westminster Assembly. The conference will provide an opportunity for the participants to have fellowship and join informal discussion with the scholars of the Westminster Assembly after each lecture.
