At a conference in Germany, the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) International Council decided to extend the tenure of the international director Geoff Tunnicliffe to the year 2010, a three-year extension to the term he was serving. The decision was a part of an overall strategy set for toward reaching 800 million of evangelicals who says to embrace global evangelism and WEA's mission.

From November 28th through December 1st, the conference was held at the German Evangelical Alliance retreat center in Bad Blankenburg, Germany. The international board members have set their goals to create strategic links with other Christian organizations.

Currently connecting over 380 million evangelicals worldwide, WEA serves as the largest international evangelical network. However, the Alliance is looking further to reach a greater evangelical population comprised of Reformed, Pentecostal, and Charismatic forms of Christianity who believes in the need for "Christ-centered transformations within society," written in a press statement.

Tunnicliffe, on the extension of his appointment, was honored to participate in the goal to establish greater Christian unity.

"I feel honored and privileged for this task to strengthen the voice of the WEA and to serve in this capacity," he said. "My hope for the next five years is that the WEA will foster Christian unity and become a truly global voice for the 800 million Evangelicals and Pentecostal Christians around the world."

WEA is a network of churches in over 121 nations and have formed alliance with over 100 international evangelical organizations. Among their membership includes the Chinese Coordinating Centre of World Evangelism (CCCOWE), Partners International, Open Doors International, and various prominent organizations.

The purpose of the organization is to "strengthen local churches through national alliances, supporting and coordinating grassroots leadership and seeking practical ways of showing the unity of the body of Christ." Written in the Alliance’s official website.
