HONG KONG- As severe typhoons have devastated southern China since mid-July, six provinces along the coastal line are troubled by heavy rain, flood and mud-rock flow, World Vision China shows continuous effort to help Typhoon victims in China.

According to World Vision China, the disaster has caused a total of 612 deaths, 208 lost, and 3 million displaced in Hunan, Guangxi, Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Guangdong. World Vision China’s relief program, which includes distributing food and shelter, rebuilding houses, as well as providing emergency packages, has benefited around 20,000 people.

World Vision China Relief Director Lee told the Gospel Herald Hong Kong, summer vocation is a high season for natural disasters. As the victims receive aid from World Vision China, they will come to know it is a Christian-based organization representing the loving believers from Hong Kong and overseas to reach out to them. Even though the relief program is similar to many other organizations, villagers are able to recognize its special characters by its faith, Lee explained.

"The local governments recognize that the way that we work is very different from other organizations. They often testify us being very reliable but not only confined to principles. We will ensure all the aids fall into the hands of the needy, and always launch follow-up check. All these have brought a difference to their lives," Lee added, as talking to the Gospel Herald.

Last Thursday, the Ministry of Civil Affairs announced on the official news agency that China is facing its most severe natural disasters for six years. Since May, east China's Fujian Province has suffered seven rounds of large-scale flooding and typhoons. Typhoon Saomai, the eighth of the year and the strongest in the last 50 decades, had left 325 dead by last Thursday.

Nevertheless, Lee complimented that mainland Chinese citizens are much more healthier than Hong Kong people in terms of Emotion Quotient. However, at the same time, the development of social counseling and psychological treatment is not enough. Therefore, apart from material aid distribution, World Vision China will try to get permission from the local government to start some counseling services, said Lee.
