X-Men: Apocalypse Release Date, Cast and Spoilers; The Horsemen and the Morlocks Are Coming

Now that the newest trailer for the next X-men film has come out, there is a lot more known that what was before.  The X-Men have a comic book history that is over decades old, and knowing the comic and seeing the new trailer can allow a viewer to make a good guess as to what the latest movie will be about.  Here is what is known about X-men: Apocalypse Release Date, Cast, and Spoilers.

Apocalypse was teased on the post-credit sequence for X-men: Days of Future Past, and it shows him with four horsemen constructing a pyramid.  For those that are unfamiliar with the comic book source material, Apocalypse is an extremely powerful mutant who is very old, hearkening back from ancient times, and believing he is an inspiration for a lot of ancient and modern religions.

The trailer shows Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) working with the Central Intelligence Agency working to find Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac).  Apparently, this mutant plans to destroy the world to make certain that "only the strong will survive", as this is his goal and the film's official tagline.  Part of this plan is recruiting people to be his Four Horsemen, just like is written in the book of Revelations.

Apparently, a young Jean Grey (played this time by Sophie Turner) has a dream of the end of the world, and it looks like the X-men are going to try and prevent it.  Along for the ride are familiar faces, like Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Evan Peters as Quicksilver (different than the character that appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron), Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Nicolas Hoult as Beast, and Lucas Till as Havok.  Jennifer Lawrence will be reprising her role as Mystique, and it looks like she is not wearing all the blue make-up.

It would appear that some familiar faces have been replaced with younger actors.  Tye Sheridan will be playing Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp will play Storm, and Kodi Smit-McPhee will be playing Nightcrawler.  The reason for the casting change is because X-Men: Apocalypse takes place in the 1980's, and so it was necessary to re-cast these X-Men with younger players than the actors from the original 2000 X-men film.  It should be noted that there is a shot on the trailer that shows New York being attacked by huge explosions, and the Twin Towers are in the background.

As far as the plot is concerned, it could follow the comic book plotline of the eighties.  In the comics, Apocalypse found his horsemen, and one of them was Plague, who will be played in this film by Rochelle Okoye.  Plague was part of a mutant group known as the Morlocks, a group of mutants that lived in the sewers of New York.  It is possible that the Morlocks could have a big part in this film, as another Morlock named Caliban has also been cast, and he's played by Tomas Lemarquis.  Monique Ganderton plays Death, but in the comics, Death was the mutant known as Angel.  Apocalypse altered Angel's feathery wings so he could shoot razor blade feathers from his wings, and this is depicted on the trailer.

Considering that the X-Men timeline was essentially rebooted in X-Men: Days of Future Present, it is possible that the audience will see things that are not in a continuity of the past X-men films.  It should also be known that Hugh Jackman won't be playing Wolverine in this film, as his name does not appear on the imdb cast page.   Expect X-Men: Apocalypse to be hitting theaters on May 27, 2016, around Memorial Day.
