Xbox One S and Project Scorpio Release Date, Specs, and Price

(Reuters) Microsoft Corp unveiled 'Project Scorpio', a new Xbox console that will support ultra-high resolution gaming and virtual reality, while also launching a slimmer version of its Xbox One console at the video game conference E3 in Los Angeles on Monday. Reuters

Sony introduced its upcoming consoles at this year's E3. The slimmer Xbox One called Xbox One S offers improved graphics, while the upcoming Project Scorpio console is reportedly four and a half times more powerful than the current Xbox One. These consoles will definitely bring new gaming experience to gamers. Now, here's what is currently known about Xbox One S and Project Scorpio release date, specs and price.

First, let's talk about the Xbox One S. More than just a miniaturized version of Xbox One, this console has upgraded processing power than the original. Xbox One S supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) gaming. It does not have 4K support, but there's a noticeable graphics improvement.

Xbox One S can also function as an Ultra HD Blu-ray player. Even though it does not have 4K support for games, users can watch 4K videos on it. This is possible because The S has HDMI 2.0a support which gives it power to display 4K videos at 60Hz.

It also comes with a vertical stand so users can save much more space. We previously reported it is 40% slimmer than the original Xbox One console. Additionally, its power supply is now inside, which means users don't have to use the bricked-shaped power supply for the device.

Furthermore, the Xbox One S has redesigned controller that is available right out of the box. The new controllers has sleeker design, textured grip on the handles and support for Windows 10 gaming. Also, it has longer range than the original Xbox One.

BGR reported the slimmer Xbox One will become available August this year.  For interested buyers, Sony offers free USB Adapter for Kinect. Buyers just have to present their original Xbox One console, an Xbox One Kinect, and Xbox One S console to get the freebie.

Meanwhile, Microsoft's Head of Xbox Phil Spencer claims the upcoming Project Scorpio console has tremendous processing power. In an interview with GameSpot, he says the console is four and a half times more powerful than the current Xbox One.  He went on to say that it is "the most powerful console ever made."

The Xbox Project Scorpio reportedly has six teraflops and "the best pixels."  Many tech experts say the the console would beat Sony's PS4.5 NEO/PS5, which is the upgraded version of PlayStation 4.

The Verge reported the Scorpio goes on sale in holiday 2017. The prices of Xbox One S and the Scorpio are not yet announced. Let's wait for further details from Sony.
