When it comes to consoles, their shelf life is definitely longer than that of your average gaming PC. The Xbox One and the Sony PS4 can be said to be entering their mid-life cycle at the moment, and while there has been refreshed models released to cater for the gnawing need of 4K ultra high resolution where gaming is concerned, what of the next generation Xbox? Head of Xbox Phil Spencer recently made an official announcement that Microsoft intends to reveal Project Scorpio and all of its glory at E3 that is happening later this year.

Spencer mentioned concerning Project Scorpio, "With Project Scorpio, we created a console with the goal of being the ultimate place for developers to realize their visions and the best place to play any Xbox game...We’re excited to unveil Project Scorpio and the amazing game experiences it powers at E3 this June."

What we do know about Project Scorpio
Project Scorpio will no doubt be a quantum leap over the current generation Xbox One -- and you can be sure that 4K UHD resolution will be supported when this particular console finally hits the market. After all, that would be the bare minimum, and it would be interesting to see just how the masses are going to react to Project Scorpio’s announcement. Game studios will also need to pick up the pace when it comes to delivering titles in 4K UHD resolution, and gamers too, will have to prepare their gaming abode with 4K Ultra HD TVs.

What we DON’T know about Project Scorpio
You can have the best hardware underneath the hood, but if it is not cobbled together in a design that is pleasing to the eye, then it would be of not much use, either, as people would most want to have something that looks good wherever they place it at home. After all, Microsoft has always intended to get a piece of the home entertainment action through the Xbox console over the years, and it would make perfect sense if Project Scorpio were to be aesthetically pleasing.

Having said that, we have absolutely no idea on what the final design of Project Scorpio will be like, but chances are it would be bold and future-proof to a certain extent. Apart from that, there is no mention of its official name to date, although we would not be too far fetched to figure out that there might be a Scorpio thrown into the mix, somewhere. As for its pricing, this is another sensitive issue that has not been explored, but chances are it would retail somewhere in the same region as that of the current Xbox One in order to maintain a level of affordability among the masses.

How will Sony and Nintendo respond?
This remains an unknown factor where Sony is concerned. Surely Sony too, would like to make sure that their next generation console has the relevant processing muscle to keep up with the times. As for Nintendo, their already unconventional way of doing things concerning video games will no doubt continue, and they would not be too perturbed with Project Scorpio’s existence with their Nintendo Switch targeting a vastly different group of gamers altogether.
