Motorola's Moto G2 will have a much larger screen than its predecessor, according to a recent photo leak that originated from social media.

On Tuesday, Aug. 26, Facebook user HelloMotoHK shared eight photos of an alleged Moto G2. The photo set also showed three alternate colors in hot pink, blue, and translucent white. A Motorola logo can clearly be seen on the left corner of the screen display. One photo shows the mobile device still in its plastic wrap.

According to the leakster, the featured device has a 5-inch screen. This claim seems to be backed up in one photo comparing the size of the unknown device to a human hand. HelloMotoHK goes on to claim that the Moto G2 will have an 8-mega pixel camera, front stereo speakers, and a microSD card slot.

In comparison, the original Moto G has a slightly diminutive 4.5-inch screen and a 5-megapixel camera. Also, the device lacked front facing speakers and a micro-SD slot. However, the phone had a starting price of about $200. In some instances, the Moto G was selling for roughly $99.

Considering that the Moto G2 features better hardware, it is not certain whether the next-gen Moto G will sell at the original low price. Still, the Moto G2 is likely to be significantly cheaper than a number of competing flagship devices, which typically sell for over $400 unlocked.

There is still no official word from Motorola regarding when the Moto G2 will be available to consumers. Even so, the wireless device manufacturer recently announced an invite-only press conference schedule for Sept. 4 at its headquarters near Chicago, IL. It has been rumored that Motorola will be featuring the Moto G2 alongside other highly-anticipated devices such as the Moto X2 smartphone and Moto 360 smartwatch.

Besides Motorola, other manufacturers have confirmed special unveiling events to the media. Samsung has already announced a Sept. 3 gathering that may introduce the upcoming Galaxy Note 4. On the same day, rival Sony scheduled a conference that may feature the Xperia Z3. Both devices are expected to compete with each other in the months ahead.

Naturally, the Moto G2 is not part of this competition because it is mainly targeted at the more economically minded buyers. Motorola may announce the Moto G2 release date at the company's upcoming Sept. 4 event.
